Volunteer Program Information

Brookridge Heights offers a vast array of volunteer opportunities for both members of the Marquette community and its community residents. With such a full range of activities designed to enhance the quality of life for Brookridge Height’s residents, there is a volunteer position for almost everyone.

We accept individuals looking to enrich their own lives by sharing their time and talents. We also join together with community groups to accomplish fundraising and philanthropy opportunities that benefit the entire community.

New programs and volunteers are always welcome!

Requirements:

Community volunteers are matched with jobs that meet their skills and interests. Most positions require a time commitment of one-to-three hours per week, for a minimum of three months. Volunteers must show a genuine interest and enthusiasm in working with elders. More short-term volunteer opportunities are also available.

Training & Orientation:

All volunteers are trained individually. Training includes an overview of resident rights, emergency procedures, do’s and don’ts when working with elders, orientation to Brookridge Heights, and training related to each specific volunteer position/program.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

Resident Companion…
Enjoy visiting with a resident in a one-on-one situation and assisting the resident with activities such as reading the paper, taking a walk, writing a
letter, or just enjoying each other’s company.

Personal Shoppers…
Help a resident by doing some personal shopping for them the next time you are shopping for yourself. It is difficult for some residents to get
out and maneuver around. Simply picking up some basic supplies can be a big help.

Pastoral Services Assistant…
Assist with a Sunday service or prayer group, lead music, play the piano, lead a Bible study, or help host a monthly memorial service.

Bingo Caller…
Host an afternoon Bingo game. You can: call numbers, hand out prizes, and assist residents as needed. (Other game hosting opportunities available).

Entertainers…
Showcase your talents to residents! We are always looking for talented volunteers to sing, dance, perform magic/comedy, or whatever your forte may be.

Arts & Crafts…
Share your artistic talents with our community members. Arts and craft activities include: scrapbooking, card making, painting bird houses, beading, and various other projects. We are always looking for new ideas and we will provide the materials!

Specific Therapy Volunteers…

Provide service in their area of expertise/education. These volunteers work in a more limited capacity, but are just as important. We have a shorter more specific training program for these volunteers, because they only work within their realm of expertise. Some of these volunteers help us provide Massage/Relaxation Therapy, Art and Music Therapy, Horticulture Therapy, and Grooming Therapies.

Additional Opportunities…

As mentioned above, we strive to create opportunities for our residents to achieve the same satisfaction that you receive from volunteering. We are constantly looking for activities that enable our residents to get involved with community issues/organizations.

That is why we have created a unique opportunity for local agencies to donate materials for volunteer programs that we can turn into fleece tie blankets, heated rice bags, and comfort bear’s. The items made are then donated to local agencies that in turn pass them on to their patrons in need.
